The almond filling in these tartlets are seasoned with a selection of spices, resembling the flavour of Christmas fruit mince pies. It\u2019s not the end of the year as yet, but with Spring in the air, there\u2019s enough reason to make these festive treats.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>400 g (1 sheet) puff pastry, thawed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Almond filling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>250 ml (100 g) ground almonds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>45 ml (3 tbsp) soft brown sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>45 ml (3 tbsp) butter, melted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5 ml (1 tsp) all spice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5 ml (1 tsp) mixed spice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5 ml (1 tsp) ground cinnamon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1,2 ml (\u00bc tsp) ground cloves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>finely grated rind of 1 naartjie or lemon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Topping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 JOYA\u00ae apples in the skin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>30 ml (2 tbsp) apricot jam, melted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>10 ml (2 tsp) milk for brushing pastry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preheat oven to 200 \u00b0C. Have 1-2 tartlet pans (patty pan tins), with at least 18 holes in total, ready.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unroll pastry, but don\u2019t roll it out any thinner. Using a cookie cutter, cut pastry in 18 circles of about 1 cm wider in diameter than the holes (about 6 cm) of the pan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Line each hole with a piece of pastry and gently shape onto the base and press against the sides. Prick each piece of pastry a few times with a fork \u2013 it allows steam to escape and result in a better crust for the tartlets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Filling:<\/strong>&nbsp;Mix all the ingredients together. Divide filling between the pastries, using about 7,5 ml (\u00bd tbsp) for each.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Topping:<\/strong>&nbsp;Quarter each apple, with the skin on, and cut in thin slices. Place a few slices on the filling of each tartlet and brush with jam. Brush pastry edges with milk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bake for 20 minutes or until the pastries are light golden brown and crispy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serve hot or at room temperature.
